The Ash Fork Middle School project is a three-day canoe trip that gives many of our rural students their first experience with outdoor recreation and camping. The Ash Fork Middle School project started in 2016 with the idea of reinforcing the team building and leadership skills learned throughout the year combined with the end of year 8th-grade trip celebrating the next step in our students’ academic career.

The 2016 canoe trip was very successful. With no access to the outside world, students refined their teamwork while learning how to paddle a canoe together, formed deeper friendships, learned the value of empathy, and gained a better appreciation of the outdoors.
