8th grade canoe trip 2019

It’s that time of year again!  For three years now, the 8th graders have been fundraising and canoeing the Colorado River from Willow Beach to the Arizona Hot Springs.  This year, students raised enough money to buy another canoe to our collection and buy some cots and folding tables. There is a lot of preparation and work that goes into making this trip possible.  The students had already been trained in rock climbing and repelling the month before.  Also, they trained in canoes at the Williams Aquatic Center.

We left Ash Fork Schools before day break on May 1st and already canoeing upstream by mid-morning toward Arizona Hot Springs.  The following day, we paddled to Boy Scout Canyon and Moon Scape.  We even made it all the way up the river to the Hoover Dam. The students had a great time jumping off rocks, swimming and hiking the trails.  The weather was a little colder than usual but it still felt perfect.  Thank you to all of the adults and sponsors that made this canoe trip another successful expedition once again.  Out chaperones this year were Mr. Staples, Bob Broehm, Natalie Broehm, Erika Acosta, Jesus Acosta and Al Wood.

A YouTube video of our canoe trip will follow soon.
