auto shop

I can’t believe Quarter 2 is almost over already! What a Quarter it has been. We have made it to the new auto shop for the most part. We are still waiting for the classroom desks and chairs, computers, Smart Board, and the 4-post lift to be delivered and set up. We have moved our tire changer and balancer to the new shop, and the students have learned the safety and operating procedures for the tire machine and balancer. Students have already started using the tire machine and balancer to rotate and balance tires, replace multiple sets of tires, and perform a few internal tire patches. We have also been going over engine cylinder heads and their components, focusing on the operation of each component. Specifically, we are looking at the combustion chamber and the 4 strokes of an engine (1-Intake stroke, 2-Compression stroke, 3-Ignition/power stroke, 4-Exhaust stroke). We will move on to engine oiling and cooling systems in the new year. We are super excited to be in our permanent location and can’t wait to fill it up with cars and tools. As always, if you have any extra tools or toolboxes lying around that you would like to see used by the youth, feel free to email me (rbroehm@afjusd.org), and we can arrange a pickup or drop-off time!
