Bench

In Welding and Auto shop classes, we did a lot of work-based learning jobs. Work-based learning is designed to give students real-world experience in their prospective fields. In this quarter at the auto shop, we had the opportunity to work on a community member's trailer, performing a complete tire replacement and a full bearing repack and seal. The Community member provided all parts and the opportunity for the students to do a real-world job.

In the welding shop, we had the opportunity to refurbish and construct four benches from the Seligman Catholic Church, St. Francis. These benches had been a staple of the church grounds, but have fallen into disrepair. Our students cleaned the paint off of previous years and welded a couple of broken parts back together. The students painted the metal with a rust-preventing paint, then used a router on the wood edges after sanding and staining the wood. The benches will be assembled and returned to the church for years of use.
