That’s right we have a mountain bike club at Ash Fork middle school! The program is designed to get kids on bikes and on the trails. This is a non-competition club, purely for the fun of being outdoors, enjoying nature, friends, and bikes. We have the opportunity to partner with a not-for-profit group, “Wheel Fun,” which provided the school with everything we needed to get out on the trails: 12 Trek Marlin Mountain bikes, 12 Trek bicycle helmets, and 12 Hydra packs for water. All at no cost to the school!
Next, we needed coaches, and for that, we had Mr. Staples and me (Mr. Broehm) to start the adventure. We started meeting after school on Mondays to practice bike knowledge, bike terminology, basic riding skills, and endurance. We did our first trail ride adventure on April 10th, taking kids on an 8-mile out-and-back trail that included a 2-lane dirt track and some fun singletrack that provided riders with challenges to test their new skills. And I'm very proud to say that all 8 students who went on the trip, completed the ride in good spirits, with some energy and excitement left for the next ride.
