Welding Chair

For this quarter, welding has been hitting the ground running on work-based learning. Work-based learning is an effective way to prepare students for the industry. We started this quarter with multiple projects for students to build. We had an older gentleman who was having trouble getting into his jeep, so students custom-built side steps to help him enter and exit his vehicle. We had a teacher who had a student break one of their chairs in class. So, we brainstormed how to fix the chair and came up with a plan. The class decided that we needed to turn this boring chair into a rocking chair! So the students bent the tubing and made legs to bolt onto the chair. We also had a couple of smaller projects that went great. Although we learn in the classroom and practice welding in the shop, it’s an excellent opportunity to apply our skills to real-world projects, where we can see the practical daily applications.
