Talking About Pecos Bill

Second grade students have been receiving a lot of practice with new and old stories through our Amplify curriculum. Students practice with engaging decodable books to increase their reading fluency while also practicing spelling and writing. The first decodable, The Cat Bandit, was a hit. Students read about a ‘Cat Bandit' who always got some food in creative, human ways. Continuing on with the next decodable, Bedtime Tales, a dad tells his son Fables his dad told him.  These are fun and relatable texts that keep students interested.

PracticeReading WritingFocusedThe Knowledge portion of the Amplify curriculum teaches students story structure through fiction and non fiction stories and tales.  Enjoying some Fairy Tales and Tall Tales, they may or may not have been familiar with, students listened to Beauty and the Beast, Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill and John Henry to name a few.

Next, students learned about Ancient Greek Civilization through stories about Gods and Goddesses, Greek- City states and mighty battles learning about some contributions that were carried across the generations like the Marathon and democracy.  As students engage and listen they understand more about writing, vocabulary and history or science standards.
