Ash Fork Elementary is excited to implement the Daily Math Skills program. With DMS we hope to increase student achievement and confidence. By building math facts fluency and accuracy students will be allowed more time and energy to focus on problem solving.
DMS is designed to build on itself as it spirals through skills and grade levels. If done with fidelity students should have less gaps and be better prepared to master Arizona Readiness Standards. Each day students practice DMS for twenty minutes. The sessions are broken down into practice, assessments with feedback and error corrections. Students work with partners as well as independently. Students progress through skills as they reach mastery of computational fluency.
I am optimistic that with the help of DMS we can improve upon our culture of high expectations. The stronger a student’s fluency is, the more intrinsic motivation builds and leads to greater success in and outside the classroom.
