Classification chart

Scientists classify living things to organize and make sense of the incredible diversity of life. Classification also helps us understand how living things are related to each other. Taxonomy, the science of classifying, was Biology's area of study for the last part of third quarter.

High School Biology students became alien taxonomists as their end of quarter project. Their job was to classify the aliens found on the planet Bizarro-World. They had to create a flow chart showing the organisms taxonomic structure, and make up names for the taxa. Because there were so few species, their taxonomic scheme only used Kingdom, Phylum, Genus and Species. Then they had give all of the aliens a scientific name (Genus Species).
